What Wedding Signage You Really Need

This week I'm going to be talking about wedding signage. I'm going to be honest with you guys, this week I'm going to cover which signs you actually need, which ones you don't need to bother with, and which ones I might go for if I had the budget.




I have got nine different ideas for different places for you to have signage at your wedding, but the question is the question is, do you actually need them?


The Welcome Sign


Let's start off with number one, and that is of course, a welcome sign. That welcome sign should be very simple, placed at the beginning of the day when your guests are arriving and it would probably say something along the lines of 'welcome to the wedding of X and Y'.

This is a good sign to have if you are at a hotel for example, guest will feel like, yes we've arrived at the right place or perhaps if you don't have exclusive use of a venue and it could be quite easy to end up in the wrong location. It's a really nice first touch point for guest and its very easy to repurpose into the evening if the location changes.


Order Of The Day


The second place I would suggest you have signage is an order of the day. Now I don't mean order of service, that is part of the stationary that goes with the ceremony. I am talking about a sign that gives a rough breakdown of all the big things that are happening throughout the day. So for example, it might say ceremony at 2 pm, it might say drinks reception at 2:30 pm, 4 pm wedding breakfast and 6 pm is the speeches and so on. It's just a nice thing to do because it gives people an idea of what to expect and what is coming when. I am one of those people who wants to know when I will be eating. If I know this, I'm happy and the same will go for a lot of your guests!






Highlight An Unplugged Ceremony


If you're keen to have an unplugged ceremony, I would highly suggest having a sign that says so. The best thing to do is put an extra touch point at the entrance to your ceremony or near your welcome sign. It will be that extra reminder and make your guests think, oh yes, I remember reading that in the invite. It's also worth mentioning it to your registrar or your vicar or your celebrant or whoever is running your ceremony. Just let them know so they can make an announcement to remind your guests that it's something really important to you.


Take A Seat, Not A Side


Another piece of signage you can have during the ceremony is something to indicate how you want your guests to sit. If you don't have a wedding coordinator and you just want to keep it quite chilled, you might just want to have a little piece of signage that says for example, take a seat not a side, if you're not going down the traditional route. Or if you would rather that they sit on a particular side, indicate that as well. Pinterest is a good source on how to write something like that in a cool way. I'm adding a 3B guys, and that's reserve signs. Just print off a piece of paper or a little sign that goes on the end of the row or on seats which indicates they are reserved for the bridal party or for immediate family.



If you've decided you'd like to use a hashtag for your wedding so that guests can tag photos and videos throughout the day, a little sign reminding them of this hashtag might be a good idea. It doesn't have to be anything flashy and could be incorporated into the welcome sign.





Cocktail Hour


Another one is bar signage. You might want something to showcase what is on offer at the bar. You could be having a cocktail hour, or maybe you have chosen His and Hers cocktails. Just a little something to detail what is available and when.


The Big One


Moving on and its a big one, the table plan. There are so many ways you can do this and you can get really creative with it. This is the piece that will direct everyone and make it easy for them to find their seats at the wedding breakfast or reception dinner.


Showcase Your Guest Book


Another idea for signage and that's something to showcase the guest book table. If you're having a guest book table or something along those lines, or maybe your doing something a little different and fun, use this signage to explain to your guests what it is they need to do. The same goes for the cake table or even a pizza station, you might want to showcase these or have a little slogan to highlight your wedding cake or evening buffet.







What Signage Do You Really Need?


So there you have it, 9 different signage options. But the questions is, which ones do you really need? If I could only choose one, it would most definitely be the table plan. You need it otherwise it's a free for all and I do not recommend that! The next thing I would choose out of all the different options for stationary is probably the welcome sign. When you arrive you know you're in the right place. It's the first point of the wedding and it gives you a little bit of an idea of what the theme is and the detail and I really like that. My other choice would be order of the day. I think it keeps the day working and it gives people an indication of what is happening and it what order.
